“ This lovely Maple wood box was created by Sandi and Dan at Sandcastle Woodworkers in Boston: www.webuildstuff.com. The photo and many of the images taken of my work is by my talented photographer Cary Chu. The translucent porcelain Turtle Landscape lithophane and lithophane cups were made from the fine porcelain slip I was able to use while a resident artist at the International Ceramic Studio in the city of Kecskemet, Hungary. An LED light panel was installed behind the porcelain panel, that I was told can last for 50,000 hours.”
My “Turtle Landscape Lithophane with 3 Cups” has been part of the permanent collection of The Blair Museum of Lithophanes, Toledo, Ohio, since 2017, the only Lithophane Museum in the world. The Museum invited me to share my story leading to the creation of this piece in an exhibit from August 3 – October 27, 2019. The original hatching turtles inspiration came from a non-fiction children’s book I illustrated called, “All About Eggs,” by Millicent Selsam, published by Harper Collins.
