A Japanese Archer aiming at a pottery target inspired by Makoto Yabe, a popular teacher. He was a master with clay, glaze and design, working by hand or on his potters wheel. See him on this lithophane in the background, entertaining his adoring students. Pottery shapes were stamped into the porcelain, and all were much like pottery created by Makoto. Old Japanese woodcuts also influenced the design, created first as a tile.

(Yabe means "archer" in Japanese)
